Embracing the In-Between: How Liminal Spaces Shape the Journey Towards Purpose in Midlife Women

Updated: Feb 18

Ever wondered why liminal space isn't a hot topic at dinner parties? Well, maybe it should be! Many of us, especially in midlife, will find ourselves navigating this peculiar phase without truly understanding it. So, before the next R.S.V.P is sent, let's discuss it!

Understanding Liminal Space:

Have you ever felt like your life isn't what it used to be, yet you're unsure where it's headed? That feeling of unsettledness and uncertainty is what is called 'liminal space.' It's the in-between, where you've left the old but haven't quite reached the new. While it may seem daunting, as a life coach specializing in working with women in midlife who feel stuck, unheard, and unsupported, to help them find their authentic voice and create momentum to move their life to the next level, I have a front stage pass, to watch as my clients maneuver their way successfully through it. Whether it's empty nesting, downsizing, caregiving, retirement, or divorce, my role is to help them embrace this unique phase, turning it into the springboard for intentional transitions towards the life they desire.

Impact on Self-Confidence:

Changes that occur or don't occur in this space can be unsettling, making you feel a bit wobbly in the face of uncertainty. It stirs up confusion, fear, anxiety, frustration, and even physical discomfort. Yet, this rocky ground is the perfect fertilizer for growing self-confidence and self-knowing. Navigating the unknown taps into your resilience, in turn fostering the self-assurance needed to propel you forward with confidence.

Motivation in Transition:

As you sift through the sands of your life in this space, you may find yourself challenging the status quo and reevaluating things - your goals, what really matters, and where you're headed. In this liminal space, you may recognize a need to shift your priorities, and to rediscover yourself and uncover long forgotten passions. As a life coach, my role is to create the space for you to break free from inertia, uncover your unique values, and build the momentum needed to have the life you want.

Clarity in Decision-Making:

Liminal spaces might seem confusing at times, but stepping back from 'this is the way I've always done it' can provide you with a fresh perspective. It's an opportunity to discern what truly matters to you. In midlife, it's common to see women's priorities shift, and it becomes crucial to invest time in what aligns with your values, rather than adhering to routines or coping behaviors that no longer serve you. This space provides you the breathing room to gain clarity on what's essential, and what no longer matters as much, to move toward the things that bring you joy, and away from those that don't. Through bringing awareness into this space, you develop a deep sense of discernment that serves as a beacon toward your truth.

Finding Success:

In the tapestry of personal growth, well-navigated liminal spaces become powerful catalysts for increased self-confidence, motivation, and clarity. Remember your journey through them is uniquely yours, and with the guidance of a supportive coach, you can more easily illuminate the path toward self-discovery and empowerment, leading you to your best and most purposeful life. Ready to embrace the transformative journey that resides in your liminal space? Reach out and let's explore it together.
